Installation of Rhodes (Cross Platform Application builder) on Windows

  • Download Instant Rhodes Installer from Instant Rhodes installer . This will install Ruby, Ruby gems, Redis, Rhodes and Rhosync gems and dependencies.
  • After the installation is complete go to Aptana Studio or Eclipse whichever IDE you are using,

o Start Eclipse, then select Help > Install New Software.

o   Click Add, in the top-right corner.

o   In the Add Repository dialog that appears, enter RhoStudio  for the Name

o   And the following URL for the Location: http://rhostudio.rhomobile.com.

o   When the installation completes, restart Eclipse/Aptana.

o   This will install RhoStudio in Eclipse or Aptana.

  • Make sure that in Windows       Preferences       RhoMobile the path is properly set.
  • The first step in using Rhodes is to install the Rhodes gem (you may want to put “sudo” in the front of this command on OS X):   gem install rhodes
  • Once you have Rhodes, you will need the SDKs for the platform you want to build your app on (e.g. we’ve included android SDK here the instructions are given below.)
  • After you install the gem and your desired SDKs, you need to run: rhodes –setup

o   This will prompt you for where you installed the SDKs for the various platforms. The installation script will display its best guess as to where the SDK is. You can then enter a new location, or leave it blank to use the suggestion. If you are not building for a specific platform (for example, you can’t build for the iPhone on Windows), you can leave that SDK location blank.

  • Set the preferences for android application :
  • Go to Aptana/Eclipse  ==> Window ==> Preferences

o   Select Rhomobile from left panel and set the path for android SDK

Installing Android SDK & Android NDK on Windows for Rhodes (Cross Platform Application builder)

  • Make sure you have the latest JDK i.e. java environment installed on your machine.

Preferably JDK1.6.0.x or higher.

  • Download the latest android sdk installer from http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html.
  • Install the SDK and also install the repositories it asks while installing. Install android platform 2.1 or higher (preferably) you can install lower versions also.
  • Set the android SDK path for windows.
  • Download the android ndk from http://developer.android.com/sdk/ndk/index.html.
  • Extract the zip archive to like say C:\andriod-ndk.
  • For installing android eclipse plug-in ADT

o   Start Eclipse, then select Help > Install New Software….

o   Click Add, in the top-right corner.

o   In the Add Repository dialog that appears, enter “ADT Plugin” for the Name and the following URL for the Location:  https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse.

o Click OK.

o   When the installation completes, restart Eclipse.

  • Configuring the ADT Plugin

o   After you’ve successfully downloaded the ADT as described above, the next step is to modify your ADT preferences in Eclipse to point to the Android SDK directory:

o   Select Window > Preferences… to open the Preferences panel (Mac OS X: Eclipse > Preferences).

o   Select Android from the left panel.

o   For the SDK Location in the main panel, click Browse… and locate your downloaded SDK directory.

Click Apply, and then OK
