Future of web

Today web2.0 is considered as commodities platform easily available and if focused on additional feature talent and trust in individual, will convert it into final finished product. The future of web2.0 is to make rich and interactive widgets for IT and business developers. Developing user interface toolkit into application will enhance the speed. Skipping the middle-ware coding and installing it in front-end will make it faster. The current examples implementing it is Dojo.com, Google web toolkit, and Google gears.

Web3.0, a successor of web2.0 technology concept brought by inventor of World Wide Web Tim Berner Lee says web3.0 is all about fast access of data resources based on semantic web technology. The proposed expanded definition of web3.0 stated in Wikipedia, coined by John Markoff as ‚third generation of internet-based services that collectively comprise what might be called ‚ the intelligent web, such as those using semantic web, microformats, natural language search, data mining, machine learning, recommendation agents, and artificial intelligence technologies which emphasize machine facilitated understanding of information in order to provide a more productive and intuitive use experience. Web3.0 is thus making web more intelligent by integrating loads of scripting into the application with technologies like semantic web and Artificial Intelligence. Web1.0 is read only, web2.0 is read-write and web3.0 is readwrite- execute technology.

Semantic Web technology  is based on well structured data, network, logics, and rules. The transformation from unstructured data into structured data is the goal of semantic web. Fetching the data from server to browser depends upon which query language is used. The data is unstructured if it is fetched from SQL, it may be remixed. API application use XML to structure the data automatically. The semantic web is complex to understand. The logical example by Peter Berkel discussed in article makes clear the working of semantic web. Take two words Paris Hilton to be searched on search engine but if the other person wants Hilton hotel in Paris, then engine must be relatively intelligent to display the result. Hence the syntax is different but the semantics are similar.

Web3.0 is called as Web of Documents, as the  documents are linked together with number of entities hidden inside. Suppose user search for University of Liverpool, if engine with semantic networked technology will be able to understand what user wants and then it will offer user more related services. Number of courses in the university would be associated with the link, if user selects the course, application form with several scholarships will be displayed. If user submits the form, convenient accommodation will be automatically booked and will further request for booking a flight. Hence several concepts are linked together. Semantic web application thus has huge collection of information embedded with it. Google, Yahoo, and Amazon are already building personalised searches. Clicking behaviour of person and the history makes these searches to display relevant results. Attention profile markup language (APML) is used to perform these results.

Today we browse 2D display; its transformation into 3D is another research in semantic web. With IBM’s virtual space called Second life, people will develop faith on each other through its virtual display. In San Francisco based Linden Lab; Second life demo shows the real world garment company who sells garments with numerous retailers, who act as Game players. Google, Yahoo, and other search engine‚ results found to be difficult for medicinal search.

Web3.0 is likely to have a big effect on medicine in 2008.  The knowledge discovery for diagnostics, Clinical data, and evidences is possible to be done by semantic web relations. The personalization of patient in hospitals, their regular health check-ups, medicines, and treatments require structured data and retrieval. The comparison medical portals like Mumbai Doctors (www.mumbaidoctors.co.in) & Nagpur Doctors (www.nagpurdoctors.co.in).  Web3.0 with genetic profiles of patients can monitor diseases and variations in BP or heartbeats and hence can reduce the cost of treatment. Semantic web serve an innovative tool for medicinal purpose named as ‚Wikiproteins‚ which stores large biomedical database as PubMed, Uniprot and National Library of Medicine.

Scott Brinker states 7 ideas for semantic marketing. Some of the ideas included, organising the data in the form of broachers and visual corporate site with rich user interface and detailed content that can add value to firm. To generate active environments with partners, customers, and business groups, the interaction, categorization of data, framing it with relevant microformats is important, he stated. Marketing can be done through social sites by advertising and tagging the link with intelligent web. These ideas will enhance the value of business related web applications.

To broadcast maximum music tracks with high content digital sound and better quality, semantic web technology is used as a research to enhance archive access and introduce multiple file formats. Semantic web is now used to improve patient‚ data in clinical research. Due to the continuous treatment on patients, it‚ difficult for new physician to study the case. Hence the complete validation, targeted interface and complete diagnostics done till date are stored uniformly into structured database. The research is highly used in clinical study with high degree of automation, high fidelity integration and accurate queries. In Spain, new search engine powered by Semantic web technology is used for public administration. The application of e-Government provides relevant information regarding taxes, change of address and business issues. It helped public to interact with high precision without calling to customer services.

Faviki is an application which explains the web pages by Wikipedia through Social bookmarking concept. This application enables a tag by adding a meaning to it, so it is called Semantic tagging approach. The search is most relevant because it looks for Wikipedia concepts based on keyword, which is then integrated by Google search. Yahoo came up with a new application Twine‚Smarter way to track interests, as caption of application, implemented semantic web concepts like RDF and microformats. Twine has personalised people‚ interests like videos, photos, web-blogs, and articles and then integrated it by topic. I believe that the internet applications on web1.0, web2.0, and web3.0 technologies is a process of continuous need based updation and value addition of software applications making internet, as a forceful and ultimate media in more spheres of life for all the times to come.
